BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION!
I once asked...what's CINCO DE MAYO?
He answered: Mexican Independence, right?
Then I continued...So what do we celebrate on Sept. 15th and 16th?
Cinco de Mayo, right? WRONG.
September is really the patriotic month and this year, Mexico feasts
on the Bicentennial of its Independence.
Coincidentally (YEAH!!) the Miss Universe pageant was awarded to
a beautiful, young woman from the mucho tequila state, Jalisco in
Mexico. Speaking
of tequila, I hope your calendars are marked for Thurs., Sept. 16th
and that you already asked for the day off on Friday…(just kidding).
The Bicentennial Fiesta touches El Portal beginning
the 15th with the traditional El Grito de Independencia (8PM). On
the next evening our annual Tequila Tasting. Directly from the city
of Tequila, the owner of Partida, Ms. Sofia Partida and Juan Francisco
Collado, owner of 1921, will travel to be with us and answer all
the questions you may have. Don’t forget to ask how to avoid
the hangover.
“Una Fiesta del Pueblo” culminates our 3 evenings of fun. From
Merida, Yucatan, Indi-Maya and the office of the Governor, have made
possible the presentation of a Mayan Orchestra. Only in San Bernardino
and at El Portal will these groups perform, offering the typical JARANA
music and señoritas who will teach us the steps of our Jarana
dance.
Expect to see amazingly embroidered “Ternos” and “Huipiles” since
a large group of Yucatecans plan to attend and show off a bit of their
Mayan roots. Cesar, our chef, and the entire staff is just as excited
preparing special menus and even some are learning the Mayan language.

I hope to be able to tell you about our Coffee Tree re-location on
the next writing. Keep reading!
